Democrat Mega-Donor Likely To Back Trump, Sources Say

Former President Donald Trump appears to have won over Billionaire hedge fund manager Bill Ackman despite Ackman known for making heavy donations to Democrats in the past.

According to sources for The Financial Times, Ackman is leaning toward Trump over President Joe Biden and might be making an endorsement of the Republican candidate sometime soon.

Per the sources, Ackman’s “dislike for Biden far outweighed his ambivalence for Trump.”

This reported development comes after the hedge fund manager said last year that he was “much more open to Republican candidates” than Biden.

The report sounds plausible considering that Ackman voiced support for Trump after the jury in his hush money trial in Manhattan decided he was guilty of 34 counts of falsification of business records on Thursday.

Commenting on a tweet Florida Governor Ron DeSantis made in reaction to the verdict, Ackman wrote, “I think any objective person would have to agree with @GovRonDeSantis here.”

DeSantis had said in his post that the decision “represents the culmination of a legal process that has been bent to the political will of the actors involved: a leftist prosecutor, a partisan judge and a jury reflective of one of the most liberal enclaves in America—all in an effort to ‘get’ Donald Trump.”

Tackling the basis of the case itself and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who brought it against Trump, DeSantis wrote, “That this case—involving alleged misdemeanor business records violations from nearly a decade ago—was even brought is a testament to the political debasement of the justice system in places like New York City. This is especially true considering this same district attorney routinely excuses criminal conduct in a way that has endangered law-abiding citizens in his jurisdiction.”

“It is often said that no one is above the law, but it is also true that no one is below the law. If the defendant were not Donald Trump, this case would never have been brought, the judge would have never issued similar rulings, and the jury would have never returned a guilty verdict,” he concluded. “In America, the rule of law should be applied in a dispassionate, even-handed manner, not become captive to the political agenda of some kangaroo court,” he added.
