Biden White House Repeats False Claim About Leading Cause Of Children’s Deaths

President Joe Biden’s White House claimed on Wednesday that the “number one killer of children” are guns.

In a post to X, the administration wrote, Guns are the number one killer of children in America. Our Administration continues to do everything we can to end gun violence and save lives.”

The claim that guns are the number one killer of little kids is, however, false, as Breitbart News found that 18- and 19-year-olds had to be categorized as children for the claim to be true, which is impossible as people 18-and-19-year-olds are of voting age.

According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, gun-related deaths of people ages 0-19 totaled 4,368 for the year 2020 while there was a total of 4,036 motor vehicle deaths for the same age range.

This report was quickly adopted by gun control advocates to send a message that more children die from guns than in car accidents.

When people within ages 18 and 19 are removed from the equation, the number of firearm-related deaths in 2020 for children aged 0-17 was 2,281 while the number of motor vehicle deaths for the same age range was 2,503.

Even with the expanded age range of 0-19 years, the claim that firearm-related deaths are the number one cause of children deaths is still false, as CDC numbers show that unintentional motor vehicle deaths in 2020 were 27 times higher than unintentional firearm-related deaths.

This detail was added to the White House’s X post as a community note that reads, “According to the CDC, the governmental agency for national health, the Number 1 cause of death in children are Unintentional Accidents.”

Users also called out the false claims, with a user commenting, “The White House is being dishonest. They have to really manipulate the numbers to make this (inaccurate) claim. They could just say it’s a problem they want to address, without lying about it being No.1, but that wouldn’t get the same headlines.”

“I find it hilarious that the Marxist left @ the White House continues to spread this lie. I challenge you to look up the CDC info yourself. You’ll discover accidents are the #1 killer of children, and guns are quite low when you stop the age at 17. Cause 18 and 19 y/o are adults,” another user wrote.

“This statistic is horrifically untrue and has been fact checked repeatedly. This account is run by the Ministry of Propaganda,” a third user commented.
