MTG Introduces Resolution To Censure Ilhan Omar

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) is attempting to force a vote on censuring Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) after her remarks last weekend which suggested her native Somalia is more of a priority for her than America.

Greene is saying that Omar, who started out as a Somali refugee before becoming a U.S. citizen, has acted as a “foreign agent” while serving as a congresswoman. According to the Georgia lawmaker, Omar’s Jan. 27 speech was “treasonous.”

Announcing her move on Thursday, Greene informed the House that her resolution would be privileged so that leadership would act on it in two legislative days. This means that the resolution would see action early next week.

When asked about Greene’s censure resolution before she formally introduced it on the House floor, Omar said, “I have nothing to say about the insanity of that woman.”

During her Jan. 27 speech, Omar was speaking to a group of Somali supporters about a controversial port deal between Ethiopia and Somaliland, a breakaway region in Somalia. According to an English translation of her remarks, the Democrat told the crowd that “the U.S. Government will only do what Somalians in the U.S. tell them to do. They will do what we want and nothing else. They must follow our orders and that is how we will safeguard the interest of Somalia.”

“For as long as I am in the U.S. Congress, Somalia will never be in danger, its waters will not be stolen by Ethiopia or others,” she said further, urging the Somalis to “sleep in comfort” in the knowledge that she is “here to protect the interests of Somalia from inside the U.S. system.”

A video of Omar’s address has made rounds and sparked criticism within the past few days, with calls from various quarters for her to “resign in disgrace,” be expelled from congress or even deported from the U.S.

While Omar has argued that her remarks were lost in translation and that her remarks were tweaked to suit a tainted narrative of her intentions, a professional translation obtained by The Daily Wire matched the overall sentiment that promoting the needs of Somalis is a top priority for the “Squad” member.

“As long as I am in the U.S. Congress, no one will take a way in the Somali sea or water. And I will not support the U.S. government in supporting other people to rob us. Rest assured that it will not happen, Minnesota. The lady that you sent to Congress knows about you, and she feels your interest like you all do,” she added.
