Russian Space Weapon ‘May’ Blind U.S. Economy, Military, Lawmaker Warns

A House Republican member who is a member of the House Intelligence Committee is warning that the U.S. economy and military could be blinded by the space weapon that Russia is trying to develop.

Speaking on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures” on Sunday, Rep. Mike Waltz (R-FL) said that the weapon Russia is working on could “completely blind our economy” and “take out our GPS” if deployed.

“It could blind our military. It is incredibly serious. It’s a weapon of mass destruction, not just us — countries all over the world,” he stated.

Last week, the White House revealed Russia has been developing an anti-satellite capability after House Intelligence Chairman Mike Turner (R-OH) called on the Biden administration to declassify the intel.

In a letter to House members, Turner said that his panel “has identified an urgent matter with regard to a destabilizing foreign military capability that should be known by all Congressional Policy Makers.”

He then called on the president to “declassify all information relating to this threat so that Congress, the Administration, and our allies can openly discuss the actions necessary to respond to this threat.”

Speaking on the Fox News’ show on Sunday, Waltz revealed that the Biden administration ignored the committee’s call for the Biden administration to inform all House members of the threat.

According to the Florida lawmaker, Turner was “very frustrated after sending multiple classified letters to the administration asking, ‘What are you going to do to stop this threat, to deal with this threat?’”

“And it won’t surprise you: we got radio silence. So the committee voted unanimously, Republican and Democrat, to say, you know what, all members need to be aware. This threat is so serious, so grave, all members need to be aware,” he said.

While Turner has been criticized for making some details of the threat available to all House members, Waltz believes that it led to the issue being taken seriously.

When anchor Maria Bartiromo asked about suggestions that Turner’s decision to reveal the details to all House members was motivated by the prospect of getting support for more Ukraine aid, Waltz threw down that idea.

“It had nothing to do with Ukraine. It had nothing to do with FISA. FISA, actually, the 702 Section of that informs all kinds of intelligence. Without getting into details, there was some new information that confirmed some things that we had suspected,” he stated.

“And it was the radio silence, the appearance that the administration was sleepwalking as this threat continued to grow. That’s what really drove it,” he added, pointing out that the decision was not made by Turner alone but by all members of the committee.
