NYC Fire Commissioner Booed, Jeered During Parade By Trump Supporters

A group of former President Donald Trump’s supporters booed and jeered at the New York City Fire Department’s Commissioner Laura Kavanaugh this weekend during a St. Patrick’s Day parade in New York.

As the fire commissioner paraded by the Trump Tower in Manhattan, a protester yelled, “You suck. Firefighters are the hunters.”

Another protester held up a poster that had Kavanaugh’s face on the body of a donkey and read, “Pin the tail on the jacka–.”

“Trump! Trump! Trump!” the group yelled.

The controversy surrounding Kavanaugh resulted from New York Attorney General Letitia James’ booing at the fire department’s promotion ceremony at the Christian Cultural Center in Brooklyn earlier this month.

As she tried to walk to the podium to give a speech, a part of the crowd broke into a chorus of boos. In an attempt to quieten the boos, she said, “oh, c’mon, we’re in a house of God. Simmer down.”

After the boos stopped and she tried to move on with her speech, the group began chanting, “Trump! Trump! Trump!”

After rebuking the crowd that day, FDNY Chief John Hodgens said in an email to high-ranking FDNY officials that the Bureau of Investigation and Trials would “hunt” down the firefighters who participated in the booing.

“BITS is investigating this, so they will figure out who the members are. I recommend they come forward. I have been told by the Commissioner it will be better for them if they come forward, and we don’t have to hunt them down,” he wrote.

After its investigative efforts sparked some controversy, the FDNY attempted to soften its language, with spokesman Jim Long saying, “Nobody is hunting anyone down. We’re looking into those who clearly broke department regulations. It has nothing to do with politics. It’s about professionalism at an official event held in a house of worship.”
