Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis this Friday suggested that voting for former President Donald Trump in the Republican primaries would be playing into President Joe Biden and Democrats’ hands. According to him, the Democratic Party actually wants Trump to be the Republican Party’s presidential nominee because there is a “playbook” planned to be rolled out against Trump to stop him from winning the election.

As he explained, “What does November 2024 look like? How is Donald Trump going to navigate all the things that he’s going to have to navigate? You notice the Democrats are licking their chops. The Democrats want to see Trump as the nominee, that is not anything that I think is a secret. Because they have a playbook that they’re going to roll out. And as soon as they want to, they will.”
DeSantis went on to point to the polls that show Trump beating President Joe Biden in virtual match-ups. Warning that it’s all a trap, he said, “You’re already starting to see these polls. There were so many polls saying Trump was going to beat Biden in the fall. Now you’re starting to see that shift. And my guess would be, if he sews up the nomination this spring, the media is going to be rolling out polls showing that Biden has a strong lead going into the general election.”
The governor emphasized the better chances the GOP has with him as their candidate. His candidacy, he says, is focused on the American people and on holding Democrats accountable.
“I think we have the advantage. When it’s on issues, we have the advantage. If it’s a referendum on Trump, the Democrats have an advantage,” he said further.
DeSantis’ remarks slightly echo Trump’s campaign trail speech against former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley on Wednesday, in which he said that Haley winning the Republican party’s presidential ticket equals Biden winning the general election.
According to him, Haley is being backed by liberal and Democrat donors who know that she is easy to beat.
In his words, “As you’ve probably heard, Nikki Haley is counting on Democrats and liberals to infiltrate your Republican Primary to put her over the top in this state — which is no surprise, since her campaign is funded by Democrats.”
