Hunter Declines Invitation To Public Hearing Before House Committee

Despite his initial request for a public hearing, Hunter Biden is refusing to publicly testify before Congress later this month. In a letter to House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) on Wednesday, he rejected the committee’s invitation to publicly testify before Congress on March 20 as part of the panel’s impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.

In the letter, Hunter’s lawyer, Abbe Lowell, called the invitation an “attempt to resuscitate your Conference’s moribund inquiry with a made-for-right-wing-media, circus act.”

“I must confess my surprise by your hasty request. After that six-plus hour deposition on February 28, 2024, along with the realization that your inquiry was based on a patchwork of conspiracies spun by convicted liars and a charged Russian spy, I thought even you would recognize your baseless impeachment proceeding was dead,” he wrote.

“Even before Mr. Biden testified, witness after witness undermined the central premise of your partisan charade. President Biden has done nothing wrong and certainly nothing, even in your misapplication of the impeachment provisions of the Constitution, to warrant further proceedings,” he said further.

Lowell added that the date of the public hearing invitation clashes with Hunter’s hearing in his California tax case, which is set for March 21.

Hunter’s rejection of Comer’s invitation is a total walkback of his offer to testify publicly in December when he was trying to avoid a closed-door hearing.

Standing outside the U.S. Capitol on Dec. 12 when the initial closed-door interview was scheduled to hold, the president’s son said to reporters, “Here I am, Mr. Chairman, taking up your offer when you said we can bring these people in for depositions or committee hearings, whichever they choose. Well, I’ve chosen. I’m here to testify in a public hearing today to answer any of the committee’s legitimate questions.”

Comer has revealed that Hunter’s rejection of a public hearing which he previously asked for is because he confirmed compromising evidence against his father during his closed-door interview which he later agreed to in February.

In a statement to X, Comer wrote, “The House Oversight Committee has called Hunter Biden’s bluff. Hunter Biden for months stated he wanted a public hearing, but now that one has been offered alongside his business associates that he worked with for years, he is refusing to come. During our deposition and interview phase of our investigation, Hunter Biden confirmed key evidence, including evidence that his father, President Joe Biden, lied to the American people about his family’s business dealings and in fact attended meetings, spoke on speakerphone, and had coffee with his foreign business associates who collectively funneled millions to the Bidens.”

“However, parts of Hunter Biden’s testimony contradict the testimonies of Devon Archer, Jason Galanis, and Tony Bobulinski. Next week’s hearing with Hunter Biden and his associates is moving forward and we fully expect Hunter Biden to participate. The American people demand the truth and accountability for the Bidens’ corruption,” he added.
