Ben Stiller made headlines on social media Tuesday when he sided with Vice President Kamala Harris as “a change candidate” in the Democratic Party.
Speaking to journalist Nicholas A. Ballasy in a video interview that has since gone viral, Stiller said: “Just very excited about moving forward and all the energy and excitement that’s around this movement right now. That’s why I’m here, because it’s time for change and it seems like it’s happening.”
Stiller is not the only one advocating for this. George Clooney and other Hollywood stars have also donated to Harris as his pick for President Biden’s likely successor in the Democratic Party presidential nomination.
Stiller seemed confident when asked if Harris could keep her momentum post-DNC.
“For sure,” he said, adding that the election is “going to be close but everyone’s motivated to work and make it happen.”
“And she and Tim Walz are just incredible candidates,” Stiller said.
The video of his interview with Stiller was posted by Ballasy Wednesday and quickly went viral, drawing heat from some commentators within the political world.
Arguably the strongest reaction came from Canadian professor Gad Saad, who said: “It is unbelievable. [Stiller] is voting for [Harris] because he wants a change from the current administration, and because he feels excitement. A parasitized mind that is facing a terminal illness of the capacity for human reason.”
“There will be no change,” Donald Trump Jr. wrote on X Wednesday. “It’s literally the Biden-Harris administration right now. Why didn’t she push for any change for the last 4 years???”
Actor George Clooney has also been vocal about his support for Harris, saying: “President Biden has shown what true leadership is. He’s saving democracy once again. We’re all so excited to do whatever we can to support Vice President Harris in her historic quest.”
