Patrick Mahomes’ wife Brittany Mahomes recently hinted at support for Donald Trump and set off a social media frenzy.
The 28-year-old Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model and former college soccer player, who has posted photos of guns on Twitter before, went through the trouble to read comments on her own Instagram post last week about donating food cans not only showed that she indeed did see those sneers but liked several others praising Trump.
One of the comments she bowed through said, “TRUMP-VANCE 2024.”
She also applauded a comment that thanked her for not giving in to the criticism: “Good you are standing your ground. Not everyone will have the same opinion as you and that’s fine, we shouldn’t be bullied to think so.”
Kelly Stafford, wife of Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, also liked the second comment. But by Wednesday evening, it appeared that Mahomes unliked those comments.
This isn’t the only time Mahomes stirred up drama with her social media behavior.
Trump’s Instagram post, beneath the header “Moving forward with a new 2024 GOP platform,” listed her opposition to legal abortion as among reasons she liked him.
Fans of Taylor Swift (who is dating Chiefs star Travis Kelce) were particularly huffy. These screenshots were soon shared by Swift fan pages on social media, leaving Mahomes facing backlash.
Mahomes clapped back at the criticism, though, last Friday on her Instagram story. “Because honestly, to be a hater at this level as an adult you have got some fucking childhood trauma that your ass refuses to heal from,” she typed. “Your brain isn’t fully developed and that’s why you’re encouraging to watch?”
She also posted a message on Monday that appears to reference the ongoing controversy: “Just because you disagree with someone, does not mean they are your enemy. You can disagree and still be kind — Rebecca Polsdorfer (@BeckFostercop) “Read that again!”
Although Brittany Mahomes has been more outspoken, her husband Patrick has stayed relatively quiet. He is not affiliated with any particular political candidate or party. During an interview with Time in April, he said it is important for individuals to vote after doing their homework. Patrick responded, “I don’t want to influence anyone getting a certain president voted into office. I think it’s… I want people to call out, what higher power they believe in. I want this to make them think, I want them to do the work.”
Conservative political commentator Candace Owens also took notice of Brittany’s recent social media activity. During a recent airing of her podcast, Owens came to Brittany’s defense, telling viewers that Mahomes’ wife is no different.
Patrick and Brittany Mahomes are from Whitehouse, Texas — a small town with 8,500 residents that has voted Republican.
