Viral claim of Pence arrest is fake news

A baseless claim circulating on X, formerly Twitter, suggests that Mike Pence has been apprehended by special forces and is currently detained at Guantanamo Bay detention facility. The social media post included an image of the former Vice President speaking at a podium bearing his name.

The viral post declared, “MIKE PENCE WAS CAPTURED BY SPECIAL FORCES AND IS CURRENTLY IN GITMO… THE WHITE HATS CAPTURED MIKE PENCE ON NOVEMBER 29, 2024.”

This assertion lacks any factual foundation, with no legitimate news sources corroborating the alleged arrest.

The story originated from Real Raw News, a website known for publishing satirical content. In fact, the site’s own disclaimer explicitly states: “This website contains humor, parody, and satire.”

The satirical outlet has previously published multiple fictional narratives involving Pence and GITMO, establishing a pattern of fabricated stories about the former Vice President.

Recent legitimate news coverage of Pence has focused on his actual political activities. Fox News reported on his supportive stance regarding Trump’s China trade policies, while noting his cautionary statement that China “must not become our enemy.” Additionally, AP News documented Pence’s decision to remain neutral during the election, choosing not to endorse any candidate.

This false narrative joins a growing list of online misinformation, including another recently debunked claim about supposed tapes showing former President Barack Obama engaging in inappropriate behavior while under the influence.
