In a significant declaration, former President Donald Trump announced his intention to address justice reform immediately upon potentially returning to office, focusing on Jan. 6 protesters and investigating committee members who he claims misused their power.

During his appearance on NBC News’ “Meet the Press” with Kristen Welker, Trump outlined his plans, stating “I want to look at everything; we’re going to look at individual cases, yeah, but, I’m going to be acting very quickly: First day. I’m looking first day.”

The former president expressed particular concern about the treatment of nonviolent protesters currently detained in Washington, D.C.’s jail facilities. Highlighting the conditions, he noted, “These people have been” imprisoned, “how long is it? Three or four years. They’ve been in there for years and they’re in a filthy, disgusting place that should even be allowed to be open.”

Trump also directed criticism toward the House Jan. 6 Select Committee members, suggesting potential legal consequences for their actions. He specifically mentioned former Republican Rep. Liz Cheney, stating, “And Cheney was behind it, and so was Bennie Thompson and everybody on that committee – for what they did, honestly, they should go to jail. I think everybody on the committee.”

When questioned about potentially directing his Justice Department to target political opponents, similar to his allegations against President Biden, Trump dismissed the notion, responding, “Not at all.” However, he indicated that investigations into what he considers unlawful political prosecutions might be necessary, concluding, “I think that they’ll have to look at that.”
