Former President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that he will be holding a rally in the South Bronx this week.
The rally will be held on May 23 in Crotona Park, according to the Trump campaign, who added that the team has already gotten a permit for up to 3,500 people to attend the rally.
In the announcement, the team said that Trump’s speech will focus on crime, illegal immigration and the economy.
“We can Make America Great Again by tackling lawlessness head-on, ceasing the endless flow of illegal immigrants across our southern border, and reversing the detrimental effects of inflation by restoring people’s wealth,” the campaign added.
The rally in New York City will make Trump’s first rally in New York since his 2016 presidential campaign.
As reported by the New York Post, team Trump announced the planned rally in the South Bronx in a statement in which he blasted President Joe Biden’s failed policies.
“The Empire State, a place near to President Trump’s heart, has been decimated by Biden. President Trump will ease the financial pressures placed on households and re-establish law and order in New York!” the Trump campaign said in the statement.
While his hush money trial goes on in Manhattan, leaving him unable to be on the campaign trail for four days in a week, the Republican presumptive nominee still reaches out to voters in New York. Last month, he met with bodega workers in Manhattan to discuss the rise in crime in New York City. He also met with firefighters with the New York City Fire Department earlier this month.
Amid his legal troubles, Trump is dedicated to seeing his campaign through. Speaking to reporters outside the Manhattan courtroom, he said, “We’re going to run very hard in New York. We have a good chance of winning New York, in my opinion. We’re going to give it a shot. We’re very close in New York, I understand. We’re leading in the country by a lot. As you saw yesterday, we’re up by a lot in every swing state, so I think we’re going to do very well.”
