The Onion has acquired Infowars through a bankruptcy auction, transforming the controversial media platform into a satirical version of itself. The acquisition was facilitated by Sandy Hook families, who were awarded $1 billion in damages from Alex Jones after he falsely claimed the 2012 school shooting was staged.

The deal encompasses the entire Infowars operation, including its website, Texas-based studio, social media presence, trademarks, and video archives.

“Last broadcast now live from Infowars studios. They are in the building. Are ordering shutdown without court approval,” Jones announced via X on Thursday morning.

During a live stream following the acquisition announcement, Jones posted on X, stating “Democrats Are On Their Way To The Building To Shut InfoWars Down Now– Alex Jones Explains The Future of InfoWars In This Critical Emergency Broadcast.”

While the winning bid remains confidential due to non-disclosure agreements, NPR reports that the selection process wasn’t solely based on the highest offer. A source revealed to The Gateway Pundit that Jones’s supporters had unsuccessfully attempted to retain control with a seven-figure bid.

According to NBC News, The Onion intends to cease Infowars’ current operations and relaunch the platform featuring established internet humorists and content creators.

“The dissolution of Alex Jones’ assets and the death of Infowars is the justice we have long awaited and fought for,” said Robbie Parker, who lost his daughter Emilie in the Sandy Hook tragedy, in a statement to the Associated Press through his legal team.

The Associated Press reports that Everytown for Gun Safety will be the platform’s inaugural advertiser.

“Everytown will continue to raise awareness on InfoWars’ channels about gun violence prevention and present actual solutions to our nation’s gun violence crisis, including bipartisan, common-sense measures and public safety initiatives backed by Everytown,” The Onion announced Thursday.

Jones has indicated his intention to contest the purchase legally and has launched his new venture, the Alex Jones Network, on X.
