In a revealing segment of “Impact x Nightline: Confessions of a Child Bride,” Courtney Stodden opened up about their harrowing experience with cyberbullying from Chrissy Teigen, which drove them to contemplate suicide.

Stodden, who identifies as non-binary and uses they/them pronouns, discussed the intense online harassment they endured following their controversial marriage to Doug Hutchinson when they were just 16 years old. Among the cruel messages, Teigen had expressed that her “dream” was for Stodden to take a “dirt nap.”

During the emotional interview, Stodden addressed Teigen’s subsequent explanation of her behavior, stating, “I know she’s saying it was from alcohol or whatever she wanted to say it was from.” They described the impact of receiving such hateful comments from the “queen of Twitter” as overwhelming for their teenage self.

Fighting back tears, Stodden revealed they had prepared a suicide note and came dangerously close to taking their own life. They recounted their lowest moment, sharing, “Maybe I don’t deserve to be here when people that high up are telling me I don’t deserve to be here.”

The cyberbullying incidents occurred in 2011 and 2012 but didn’t come to light until a decade later, after Stodden’s marriage to Hutchinson, now 64, had ended. The revelation led to professional consequences for Teigen, 39, who subsequently issued a public apology in 2021, describing herself as an “insecure, attention-seeking troll” and expressing deep shame and embarrassment.

Despite Teigen’s public statement hoping for Stodden’s healing, Stodden later revealed to Page Six that they remained blocked by Teigen on X (formerly Twitter). They expressed disappointment that Teigen’s apology seemed directed more toward the public than to them personally.

Teigen later appeared on the “Today” show, crediting the scandal with personal growth and her journey to sobriety, claiming it transformed her into a “stronger person.”
