Stefanik Asks Biden To Provide Solution To Illegal Border Crossing

Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) is fed up with the increasing flock of illegal crossings at the Swanton border sector in New York state. Now, she is asking President Joe Biden to secure the sector.

The U.S. Border Patrol Swanton Sector, which falls in Stefanik’s district, recently reported a historic level of increase of illegal crossing from Canada into the United States.

From Oct. 1, 2022, to Jan. 31, 2023, alone, the sector has seen a more than 846 percent increase in encounter and apprehension of illegal migrants, compared to the record made during the same period in fiscal year 2022. Border agents also reported that the Swanton border recorded more apprehensions this January than they did in the last 12 Januarys combined.

While border officials have warned multiple times of the unlawfulness and risk of entering into the United States through illegal means, the advice has largely been ignored as the border is greeted daily with more family groups with young children and infants in tow.

In a statement released Tuesday, Stefanik, who has always criticized Biden’s “radical open border policies,” said that the Southern Border crisis has extended to the state of New York and now, the Swanton sector is not secure.

“From the beginning, I have stood up for our border patrol and warned against how Joe Biden’s Southern Border crisis has forced border patrol agents in my district into no-notice deployments, weakening morale and leaving security openings at the Northern Border. But it has taken months for him to admit his crisis at the Northern Border,” she wrote.

Stefanik further slams Biden for his inactive stance regarding the invasion as she says he encourages an influx of illegal migrants in New York state.

She also took a dig at Gov. Kathy Hochul and New York City Mayor Eric Adams, both Democratic leaders, for leaning towards the incentivization of illegal immigrants who in their flock constitute an unfair nuisance to New York taxpayers and border officials.

“My office is in touch with numerous families along the Northern Border who are documenting vast amounts of illegals crossing their own properties. Instead of addressing this crisis, Joe Biden has passed the buck and shipped his crisis to New York State with the assist from Kathy Hochul and Eric Adams,” the statement read.
