Trump 2024 National Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt remarked U.S. politics entering uncharted territory over Biden’s resignation which already had innumerable critics declaring it to be time for him to step down now.
For weeks, the White House communication team had been bombarded with questions about Biden’s health and whether he wouldn’t drop out of the 2024 race.
“All you can do is shake your head. No one at the White House has any credibility when it comes to Joe Biden’s health. From Vice President Harris to the White House physician to everyone in the press office, they covered up the president’s frailties. They hid the truth. It’s a scandal,” former George W. Bush White House press secretary Ari Fleischer told Fox News Digital.
A White House spokesperson, Andrew Bates, replied to a request for comment by stating: “You mean the same Ari Fleischer who told the American people over 100 lies while making the case for the Iraq War? That Ari Fleischer?”
Voters, and social media users around the country, have lamented that a communications team was “missing in action” while questions mounted over Biden’s health as well as his plans not to run for re-election in 2024.
In the letter, Biden writes that only a handful of White House and campaign officials were informed before he publicly announced his exit from the race, including Vice President Kamala Harris, chief of staff Jeff Zients, and campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon.
“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek re-election, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term,” Biden said in his letter posted to X on Sunday afternoon announcing his departure from the race.
Reports in the media shortly after the announcement suggested that both White House staffers and people who had worked on his re-election campaign were stunned by it, finding out about via a post made to X and through Zoom call early Sunday.
It is believed that the Biden out of the race chatter derived from his abysmal debate against Trump last month. Following the debate, The White House communications team was bombarded with inquiries about whether the president had Parkinson’s disease or another condition that caused his slow performance.
