In a revealing interview with Der Spiegel ahead of her memoir release, former German Chancellor Angela Merkel shared her deep disappointment over Donald Trump’s election victory and its impact on global politics.

The long-serving German leader, who held office for 16 years until 2021, expressed to the left-wing newspaper how Trump’s win had “filled her with sadness” and complicated the implementation of globalist policies.

“If someone in politics does not allow for win-win situations but only ever recognizes winners and losers, then that is a very difficult task for multilateralism,” she said.

The former Chancellor also voiced concerns about Elon Musk’s growing influence on future governance. “If this ultimate recourse is influenced too strongly by companies, whether through capital power or technological capabilities, then that is an unprecedented challenge for all of us,” Merkel explained.

She further emphasized her worries about Musk’s space presence, stating, “If a person like him [Musk] owns 60% of all satellites orbiting in space, then that has to be a huge concern for us in addition to the political issues.”

In her upcoming book, Merkel recounts the infamous handshake incident with Trump. “Instead of stoically bearing it, I whispered to him that we should shake hands again,” she wrote. “As soon as the words left my mouth, I shook my head at myself.”

“How could I forget that Trump knew precisely what he was doing ā€¦ He wanted to give people something to talk about with his behavior, while I had acted as though I were having a conversation with someone completely normal.”

Her choice to speak with Der Spiegel is particularly noteworthy, as the publication recently labeled Musk as “enemy number two,” prompting him to enhance his security measures.

The memoir, titled *Freedom: Memories 1954-2021*, will debut next week, with a promotional event featuring Barack Obama scheduled for December.
