America’s Israel support cost Biden the election

Iran’s Foreign Ministry claimed Monday that widespread American opposition exists against Israel’s military response to Iran-backed terrorist groups, particularly Hamas, suggesting that Democratic support for Israel contributed to their 2024 presidential defeat.

According to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei, Donald Trump’s presidential victory reflected significant anti-Israel sentiment, particularly evident in university protests across America.

“Over the past year, public opinion in the US, both in the universities and in public circles, has openly expressed its opposition to the killing and genocide of the people of Gaza,” Baghaei stated, as reported by PressTV, Iran’s state media outlet. He expressed hope that Trump’s administration would fulfill campaign promises to swiftly end the ongoing conflict.

Israel launched its military campaign against Hamas following the October 8, 2023 terrorist attack, which resulted in approximately 1,200 Israeli deaths and over 200 hostages. Iran, a major Hamas supporter, praised the attack as the “al-Aqsa Flood.”

The outgoing Biden-Harris administration’s relationship with Israel proved complicated. Despite pledging unwavering support, their attempts to influence military operations created tension with Prime Minister Netanyahu’s government. Multiple peace proposals from Biden failed to gain traction with either side.

American campuses witnessed violent anti-Israel demonstrations throughout the year. Protesters occupied Columbia University buildings and clashed with security forces nationwide. Recently, antisemitic protesters targeted Harvard’s Hillel center, chanting calls for Israel’s destruction.

Iran’s leadership actively encouraged these protests. “See what is happening in the world,” Ayatollah Ali Khamenei remarked in April. “In Western countries, in England and France, and in states across the US itself, people are coming out in huge numbers to chant slogans against Israel and America.”

In June, Khamenei addressed American students directly, writing: “You have now formed a branch of the Resistance Front and have begun an honorable struggle in the face of your government’s ruthless pressure — an administration that openly backs the usurper and brutal Zionist regime.”

The Democratic Party faced internal division over Israel policy during the 2024 campaign. “Uncommitted” voters gained prominence in primary elections, demanding pro-Palestinian representation at the Democratic National Convention, which ultimately excluded such voices.

Trump’s victory showed improved Republican performance among Arab Americans, Muslim Americans, and Jewish voters. However, Trump maintained his pro-Israel stance, having previously supported Israeli interests during his first term, including authorizing the elimination of Iranian commander Qasem Soleimani.

Speaking to Breitbart News, Trump criticized Harris’s approach to Israel: “She hates Israel. She is very bad to Jewish people. It’s incredible how badly she treats Jewish people and Israel—it’s amazing.” He added that Democrats had become “pro-Hamas. Schumer has become a Palestinian. They are pro-Hamas. There’s no question about it.”

Netanyahu promptly congratulated Trump on his victory. His office later stated: “Their conversation was warm and cordial. The Prime Minister congratulated President-elect Trump on his election victory. The two agreed to work together for Israel’s security, and also discussed the Iranian threat.”
