Lisa Kudrow has shared her insights on why “Friends” continues to captivate new audiences, particularly among younger viewers who weren’t even born when the show first aired.

“I’m not amazed because it’s good and it’s familiar,” the actress told Page Six while promoting her upcoming Netflix series “No Good Deed.”

The beloved Phoebe Buffay portrayer suggests that the sitcom’s enduring appeal lies in its portrayal of genuine human connections, something today’s digitally-connected youth may find themselves yearning for.

“For something they don’t have, which is in-person connections and relations,” she continues. “And that’s always been at the heart of every successful show.”

She attributes the show’s lasting success to its perfect blend of humor, strong performances, and meaningful relationships, noting, “That’s why people get attached to them and then if it’s funny, there [are] good performances, good jokes, that’s a bonus and ‘Friends’ had all that.”

Reflecting on the show’s early days, Kudrow remembers skeptics questioning the concept. Many doubted whether a show about young people conversing on a couch could succeed.

“That’s not my problem,” Kudrow says she cheekily answered. “I’m just in it, but yes it was a show.”

The series concluded with a remarkable 52 million viewers tuning in for its finale, securing its place as the fifth most-watched series finale in American television history. The cast later reunited in 2021 for an HBO Max special hosted by James Corden.

Currently, Kudrow is preparing for her role in Netflix’s “No Good Deed,” where she stars alongside Ray Romano. The dark comedy chronicles three families’ fierce competition to purchase a Los Angeles home owned by their characters.

Speaking about her collaboration with Romano, Kudrow expressed enthusiasm: “Such a good actor, he’s so effortless and he seems like such a nice person…I have a feeling that that would work out really well and it did! Yeah, we have a lot in common.”

The series, which features a talented ensemble including Abbi Jacobson, Linda Cardenelli, Denis Leary, and Poppy Liu, premieres December 12th.
