National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan addressed concerns about Trump’s FBI director pick during a recent CNN appearance. When asked by guest host Kasie Hunt about Trump’s selection of Kash Patel, a known Trump loyalist who has promised to tackle the “deep state,” Sullivan emphasized the traditional non-partisan nature of the FBI director position.

During the “State of the Union” broadcast, Sullivan highlighted how the Biden administration has handled the FBI directorship, noting their retention of Chris Wray, Trump’s original appointee. He emphasized that Wray has performed admirably in his role.

“They’re appointed for enough time to last past two terms of a president because they’re supposed to be insulated from politics,” Sullivan explained, underscoring the unique nature of the FBI director’s ten-year appointment term.

Sullivan maintained a diplomatic stance regarding Trump’s selection, stating that the FBI director should remain independent from political influences. He declined to directly comment on Trump’s choice, indicating that the incoming administration would need to address their own decisions.

When pressed about Patel’s potential impact on the bureau, Sullivan reiterated the Biden administration’s commitment to maintaining the FBI’s traditional non-partisan structure, while diplomatically deferring specific comments about Trump’s selection to the incoming team.
