AOC And MTG Clash At Committee Hearing

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) got into a heated feud during a committee hearing on Thursday that led to Ocasio-Cortez referring to Greene as “baby girl.”

The spat began during a discussion among the House Oversight Committee over contempt of Congress proceedings for Attorney General Merrick Garland due to his refusal to turn over audio of President Joe Biden’s interview with Special Counsel Robert Hur in the classified documents investigation launched over him.

Greene had brought the daughter of Judge Juan Merchan, who is presiding over former President Donald Trump’s hush money trial, into the conversation, asking if any Democrats had employed her.

“I’d like to know if any of the Democrats on this committee are employing Judge Merchan’s daughter,” Greene said.

However, her inquiry attracted the objection of Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX), who stated, “Please tell me what that has to do with Merrick Garland.”

“Oh, Goldman. That’s right. He’s advising. Ok,” Greene stated, ignoring Crockett and making reference to the fact that the firm Merchan’s daughter worked for as a political consultant worked for Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY) in the past.

Crockett pressed, saying, “Do you know what we’re here for? Do you know we’re here —”

At some point, Greene took a swipe at the Democrat lawmaker, as she said, “I think your fake eyelashes are messing up your –”

Committee Chair James Comer (R-KY) then cut in to say, “Hold on! Hold on! Order. We have a point of order.”

He then asked Rep. Stephen Lynch (D-MA) to state his point.

“Mr. Chairman, I would just like to ask the parliamentarian if your conduct here in raising money in connection with this hearing is referable to the Ethics Committee within this hearing. There’s a motion in order to refer your conduct and your abuse –” Lynch was saying when Comer cut him short to let him know that “that’s not a point of order.”

It was then that Ocasio-Cortez moved to attack Greene for her remarks about Crockett’s faux lashes.

“I do have a point of order. And I would like to move to take down Ms. Greene’s words. That is absolutely unacceptable! How dare you attack the physical appearance of another person!” the New York lawmaker said.

“Are your feelings hurt?” Greene retorted.

“Move her words down!” Ocasio-Cortez shouted to which Greene said, “Aww.”

In condescending tones, Ocasio-Cortez stated, “Oh! Girl, baby, girl!”

“Oh, really?” Greene said.

“Don’t even play!” Ocasio-Cortez retorted, which prompted Greene to say, “Baby, girl? I don’t think so.”

“We are gonna move and we are gonna take your words down,” Ocasio-Cortez insisted.

Greene later agreed that her words should be stricken. However, she said that she would not offer the apology Ocasio-Cortez demanded.

The Georgia lawmaker challenged Ocasio-Cortez to debate her, a challenge the Democrat shoved aside.

Crockett later chimed in, saying, “I’m just curious. To better understand your ruling, if someone on this committee then starts talking about somebody’s bleached blonde, bad-built, butch body, that would not be engaging in personalities, correct?”
