Vice President Kamala Harris has not won over a group of swing voters who remain undecided because they found her debate against Donald Trump so uninspiring, The New York Times. Some thought she did a good job while others needed more convincing.
“It was all disappointing,” said Sharon Reed, a 77-year-old retired teacher from Pennsylvania.
The debate, hosted by ABC News and taking place on Tuesday, largely saw Harris as the winner. This was verified by media analysts, exit polls, and many viewers.
But Samira Ali, a 19-year-old college student from Wisconsin, was not convinced. ”She hasn’t earned my admiration yet,” she told the Times. “I’m still deciding.”
The exchange in Philadelphia, which unfolded at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, was a chance for each of them to air his policy proposals and overall view on the country. But, like many voters — among them, Gerald Meyers, 40 — the conversation left him hungry for more. Meyers: “I do not know what is going on and I truly am doing my best to follow along!” I would like to see how this affects my family financially.
Milwaukee voter Keilah Miller, 34 and typically a Democratic supporter, said Trump definitely made his case better. ” Trump has a “slightly more credible sounding argument,” she said. I guess I am leaning more on his truths than her imagination. Miller continued, noting that when Trump was in office, she “…not going to lie [was] doing much better when Trump was around. I have never been more depressed than I have in the last four years. It’s been so hard for me.”
Arizona resident Jason Henderson, a defense contractor and former soldier, said much the same. He said, “Trump had the more forceful presence. Harris did nothing to make me think she’s good. In any way.”
Still, many other voters refused to take him seriously as a candidate. Even so, they sensed that Harris still had to better explain how she would do things differently from President Biden, noted The New York Times.
Still, Harris did satisfy a 60-year-old voter in North Carolina when asked if she would be voting for the vice president.
The panel was held by Fox News Digital, and 12 of the 17 voters stated that Harris won it. A CNN poll released after the debate, meanwhile, found that 63% of viewers felt Harris had won while only 37% thought Trump did.
Undecided voters are expected to be making up their minds as the campaign moves forward and becomes increasingly intense.
