In a significant shift from the Biden administration’s border policies, the implementation of the CBP Home App under President Trump marks a new approach to immigration control, focusing on voluntary self-deportation rather than facilitating entry.
Recent data shows remarkable success in border management, with March recording just over 7,000 illegal crossings, representing the lowest monthly total in modern history. This dramatic decrease becomes even more striking when compared to March 2024’s figures of 137,000 crossings under the previous administration.

During a discussion with Border Czar Tom Homan, Bill Melugin highlighted this stark contrast, noting that daily crossings under Biden sometimes exceeded 10,000 individuals. In response to Melugin’s inquiry about this transformation, Homan attributed the success to President Trump’s leadership. “President Trump is a game changer. I mean, President Trump promised the American people he would secure the border,” Homan said. “In 60 days, he did what Biden administration couldn’t or wouldn’t do in four years,” Homan continued.
The newly introduced CBP Home App has already shown promising results, with approximately 2,500 individuals registering for voluntary departure within its first three weeks of operation. However, Homan acknowledged the need for broader outreach. “That’s been up about three weeks, and we got to, you know, it needs to be advertised more, especially in Spanish language and other languages,” Homan said. “I think the last three weeks, we’ve had about 2,500 signed up.

We need a lot more than that,” Homan continued. The program offers a potential pathway for legal return to the United States for those who choose to self-deport. As Homan explained, “We are going to try to convince these people, do the right thing, leave the nation on your own, and take advantage of the legal way to come back to this country.”
This represents a complete reversal from the previous administration’s approach, which utilized the CBP One App to facilitate entry into the country, contributing to what many viewed as an ongoing border crisis.
