Dr. Janette Nesheiwat’s nomination as U.S. Surgeon General by President Donald Trump marks a significant moment in American healthcare leadership, with Trump lauding her as a champion of preventive medicine and public health advocacy.

The announcement highlights Nesheiwat’s impressive medical background, particularly her frontline service during the COVID-19 pandemic and her extensive experience in disaster relief efforts.

Following the nomination, Dr. Nesheiwat expressed her appreciation, stating: “I am deeply honored and humbled by this nomination to serve as Surgeon General of the United States. Thank you, Mr. President, for your trust. I pledge to work tirelessly to promote health, inspire hope, and serve our nation with dedication and compassion.”

While Nesheiwat’s qualifications have garnered respect, her previous COVID-19 vaccine stance has sparked debate among conservatives. Her past social media post read: “Happy Thanksgiving! Be safe & protect yourself this thanksgiving holiday. Flu shot, booster shot, first shot etc. If you’re not yet vaccinated, get tested before gatherings to minimize spread.”

However, Nesheiwat’s position has evolved with emerging data. She later posted: “If CDC approves a COVID vaccine addition to the routine schedule of vax for kids, it will mark the most egregious unethical & harmful decision to children. No mandates. Especially for a vax that can’t prevent disease.”

Her criticism extended to vaccine efficacy, stating: “COVID vax does not prevent disease like we once thought it did per the CDC / Pfizer etc.”

Additional concerns were expressed in her posts: “Pfizer pulls FDA request for Covid vaccine for kids under 5. Good. How can it be approved without data” and “A big mistake. The CDC allowed us sick doctors/nurses to work while covid+ positive but you are penalizing those who already have natural immunity knowing the current vaccine does not stop transmission or acquisition of covid.”

She further commented: “Agree. ‘Oh you’ll only have mild symptoms’ is not enough anymore for me, how about no symptoms and no disease and lets get a better vaccine..” and “Health officials plan to discuss Pfizer vaccine stroke findings on Jan 26. That’s in 2 weeks! Answers are needed now not in 2 weeks. Perhaps seniors who just had Pfizer vax need a blood thinner ie aspirin for 21 days. But this can’t be recommended until more data is disclosed.”
