Nancy Pelosi, the former Democratic speaker of the House and now a top official with Attorney General Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign, suggested over this past weekend that Donald Trump might avoid his vice-presidential confrontation for being “a toothless coward.”
Trump’s campaign responded by in essence accusing Pelosi of promoting “fake news.”
Pelosi, speaking at the Texas Tribune Festival in Austin, Texas was interviewed by journalist Kara Swisher. In the discussion, Swisher asked Pelosi what advice she would give Trump for an upcoming ABC News Presidential Debate. Pelosi, 84, responded with a note of doubt: “You think he’s going to come?”
When Swisher pressed further and asked whether Pelosi had received inside information about the diagnosis, she replied, “I know cowardice when I see it.” The crowd laughed and cheered at the remark.
Swisher then noted that ex-Wyoming Congresswoman Liz Cheney had also branded Trump with the “misogynist pig” appellation at said event. Pelosi cheekily replied, “Isn’t she wonderful?”
In response, Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung told Fox News Digital, “Nancy Pelosi has no idea what she is talking about and has been proven to be a liar and fraud. If she isn’t busy giving herself fake titles to make herself feel better, she’s peddling fake news because it’s the only thing she’s ever done.”
Pelosi’s exchanges with Trump have been particularly harsh. Pelosi memorably shredded Trump’s printed copy of his State of the Union address after he finished speaking in a Joint Session of Congress last year.
