Harris snubs Vance family in vice president home tour

Kamala Harris’s latest actions have once again demonstrated her lack of professional courtesy, a pattern that has been evident throughout her political career. Her conduct during various high-profile moments, from the Brett Kavanaugh hearings to her role in the Democratic primaries, has consistently raised questions about her suitability for national office.

In a recent development that underscores this pattern, Harris has chosen not to extend the customary invitation to incoming Vice President J.D. Vance and his spouse to visit the vice presidential residence at the Naval Observatory in Washington. According to CBS News, sources close to Harris attribute this decision to her own experience in 2021, when she wasn’t able to visit the residence before taking office.

However, the circumstances surrounding the 2020 transition period were markedly different. At that time, President Trump was contesting the election results amid concerns about irregularities in battleground states during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the tense political climate, then-Vice President Mike Pence had quietly offered Harris and her husband an invitation to visit.

The current transition lacks such controversy, with Trump’s victory being widely acknowledged across the political spectrum, including by Democratic leaders and mainstream media outlets. This makes Harris’s decision appear particularly petty.

The situation became more problematic when Usha Vance reached out regarding childproofing the residence for their three young children, all under age 8. A Harris political appointee initially dismissed these inquiries, though Navy personnel who manage the property have since stepped in to provide assistance.

According to CBS News, Navy officials conducted a pre-Christmas briefing about the residence’s layout and moving logistics. Sources indicate that Usha Vance and Doug Emhoff later engaged in a 40-minute conversation, with Harris’s team now working on accommodations for the Vance children.

Those defending Harris claim she’s been preoccupied with a canceled overseas trip and California wildfire issues. However, these explanations seem inadequate, as coordinating a brief meeting with her successor would hardly interfere with either responsibility. Her role in addressing the California wildfires has largely been limited to supporting President Biden’s initiatives.

This latest episode adds to a growing list of instances where Harris has failed to meet the traditional standards of her office, effectively dismissing not only the incoming vice president and his family but also the millions of Americans who supported the Trump-Vance ticket in November’s election.
