Federal investigators are beginning to piece together the outline of family life for Thomas Matthew Crooks, the assassin who tried to kill former President Trump in Pennsylvania last month.
The enormous wealth of the Crooks family has allowed them to distance themselves from public life. In Bethel Park, Pennsylvania neighbors barely know the family who live in a modest three-bedroom home.
A neighbor of Katie Crooks, Thomas’s sister, reportedly called her “hardworking” with two jobs. Three years ago, with the help of her brother, she moved into an apartment building in Bethel Park.
“The person who helped her, I couldn’t tell if it was a male or a female,” the neighbor told the Post of his initial reaction to Thomas, 20.
“A couple of days later I asked if it was one of her siblings and she said it was her brother. The one who shot Trump… He was real scrawny,” he added.
The neighbor said he knew little about Thomas, but described Katie as a “real go-getter” who worked both part-time jobs at the high school and also waited tables at a restaurant.
“She’s real friendly,” he said. “She’s a nice girl. I couldn’t say a bad word about her.”
Katie and her brother are Republicans, while their father is a Libertarian.
Videos from local and national news outlets showed Katie arriving at the Crooks’ family house in Bethel Park on Monday night with luggage into her red Hyundai Kona.
FBI investigators also discovered that Crooks had graduated from Community College of Allegheny County in May, majoring in Engineering Science.
“Like all Americans, we are shocked and saddened by the horrific turn of events that took place in Butler, Pa., on Saturday,” the college said in a statement.
“We are grateful that former President Trump is safe and recovering, and we extend our condolences to the family of Corey Comperatore on their loss, and offer our thoughts and prayers to all others who have been impacted by this tragedy.”
Anyone with information on why Crooks fired from a rooftop at Trump is being asked to contact the NYPD, law enforcement sources told The Post. On Monday, a search of his phone did not indicate any clear motive for the shooting, sources said.
