Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz was greeted with criticism during a visit to the Great Minnesota Get-Together on Sunday when he appeared not know how to respond after being asked about News of six murdered hostages in Gaza.
In a video widely shared online, the Minnesota governor is seen being greeted by supporters while answering questions from an audience. At one stage, the off-camera voice asks: “How do you react to six hostages being found dead in Gaza?”
Walz doesn’t answer the question, instead he thanks the crowd and walks away.
The video was interpreted by some viewers as Walz purposely ducking the question, though it is not clear if he actually heard it. But the clip was met with criticism, as some social media users accused Walz of not answering because he is a “coward.”
Fox News Digital contacted Harris-Walz campaign to ask whether Walz heard the question, and if not, what his reaction would have been.
Walz later released a statement denouncing Hamas as “a brutal terrorist organization,” among others.
“The anguish of losing a child is something no family should have to endure. Gwen and I send our deepest condolences to the Goldberg-Polin family, after Hamas’ murder of their son Hersh,” reads a post on Walz’s X account. “Hamas is a brutal terrorist organization – and we condemn their continued atrocities against both Americans and Israelis in the strongest possible terms.”
The buzz began when the evening news broke with pictures of six Israeli hostages, one an American named Hersh Goldberg Polin, were found dead in Gaza where Hamas had been holding them since October 7th as Israel and Hamas clashed.
Walz was at the state fair just hours after Israeli Defense Forces found what remained of three hostages in a tunnel under Gaza’s Rafah area.
