Ford’s journey began 27 years ago when he embraced the responsibility of being a single father to his two daughters. With unwavering determination, he embarked on a journey that saw him provide for his family while remaining committed to his role as a cook and cashier at Burger King.
Last year, Ford took to TikTok to commemorate his remarkable achievement. In a heartwarming video that impressed many, he proudly shared his milestone of never missing a day of work. The video quickly captured the hearts of viewers, who praised Ford for his dedication and resilience.
However, as the video circulated, voices rose in response to what many perceived as an inadequate acknowledgment from Burger King. To many, the gift Ford received for his exceptional service — a plastic bag containing a movie ticket, candy, pens, keychains, and a Starbucks cup — did not match the magnitude of his commitment.
Amidst the growing discussion, Ford’s daughter, Seryna, decided to create a GoFundMe. On the page, she spoke of her father’s sacrifices and contributions, sharing how his unwavering commitment provided stability, education, and health coverage for their family.
“He originally began working at this job as a single father when he gained custody of me and my older sister 27 years ago. Then as our family grew and he remarried, he continued to work there because of the amazing health insurance that was provided through this employer because it was unionized. This got all four of his daughters through high school and college with full healthcare coverage,” she wrote.
“In no way are we asking for money or is he expecting any money but if anyone feels like blessing him he would love to visit his grandchildren,” she added.
Ford’s story touched people from all walks of life, prompting an outpouring of donations. The GoFundMe page has since raised over $400,000 as of Friday.
When asked about his plans for the money in an interview, Ford remained focused on what truly matters to him — his work and family.
“I haven’t thought of anything to do with that money except to visit my grandkids and possibly save some for their college. But my main focus remains my work and my family,” he said.
The heartwarming story reached its peak when Ford’s dream came true. Flown out to New York City, he was surprised on live television by the reunion with his beloved grandchildren during an appearance on NBC’s “Today” show.
“I haven’t seen my grandkids in over four years, until the other day when ‘The Today Show’ flew me out to New York and I got to see them live on TV,” he said, adding, “I’ve been crying for all these days as it is and of course I’m crying live on TV again seeing my grandbabies.”
