In a groundbreaking development for the music industry, Beyoncé has emerged as the frontrunner for the 2025 Grammy Awards, securing an impressive 11 nominations. This achievement brings her career total to 99 nominations, solidifying her position as the most-nominated artist in Grammy history.

Beyoncé’s latest album, “Cowboy Carter,” has garnered nominations in several prestigious categories, including album of the year and country album of the year. Her hit single “Texas Hold ‘Em” is up for record, song, and country song of the year. The versatile artist has also received nods in various genres, spanning pop, country, Americana, and melodic rap performance categories.

This marks Beyoncé’s debut in the country and Americana categories, showcasing her ability to transcend musical boundaries. If she clinches the album of the year award, she will make history as the first black woman to achieve this feat in the 21st century, following in the footsteps of Lauryn Hill, who last won in 1999.

Post Malone has also made waves in the country music scene, receiving his first-ever nominations in the genre. His debut country album “F-1 Trillion” is nominated for country album, while his collaboration with Morgan Wallen, “I Had Some Help,” is up for country song and country duo/group performance. These nominations also mark Wallen’s first Grammy nods.

The nominations list features a diverse array of artists, with Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar, and Charli XCX each securing seven nominations, tying with Post Malone. Notably, Charli XCX earned her first nominations as a solo artist.

Kendrick Lamar’s track “Not Like Us” has received multiple nominations, including record and song of the year, rap song, music video, and best rap performance. The rapper has achieved a career first by having two simultaneous entries in the best rap performance category.

Taylor Swift, along with first-time nominees Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan, has garnered six nominations each. The album of the year category showcases a diverse range of genres, featuring André 3000’s new age, alt-jazz album “New Blue Sun” and Jacob Collier’s “Djesse Vol. 4,” alongside pop offerings from Carpenter, Roan, Swift, Eilish, and Charli XCX.

Recording Academy CEO and President Harvey Mason Jr. expressed enthusiasm about the diversity of genres represented in the general field, attributing it to an evolving voting body. He emphasized the Academy’s efforts to rebalance membership and ensure representation across different types of music, regions, and locations.

The best new artist category includes Carpenter, Roan, Benson Boone, Doechii, Khruangbin, RAYE, Shaboozey, and Teddy Swims. The song of the year category features entries from Beyoncé, Eilish, Swift and Post Malone, Roan, Carpenter, Lamar, Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars, and Shaboozey.

Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” has been a standout hit, spending more weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 than any other song this year. The artist also received a nomination in the melodic rap performance category for his feature on Beyoncé’s “SPAGHETTII,” which also marks the first Grammy nomination for 83-year-old Linda Martell, the first commercially-successful black woman musician in country.

The record of the year category includes entries from Beyoncé, Swift and Post Malone, Eilish, Lamar, Roan, Carpenter, Charli XCX, and the Beatles’ AI-assisted “Now and Then.”

While the nominations showcase diversity in many areas, there is a noticeable absence of Latin music and K-pop representation in the major categories. Mason Jr. acknowledged room for improvement and emphasized the Academy’s ongoing efforts to invite more diverse membership.

The 2025 Grammy Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on February 2, airing live on CBS and Paramount+ from the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
