A terrifying road rage incident in Houston ended with a truck driver being shot after allegedly pursuing and threatening a young couple Friday night. According to police reports shared with KHOU-TV, the incident began around 9:30 p.m. when a man in his 40s was spotted driving aggressively on Interstate 610.

The situation escalated when the truck driver allegedly targeted a vehicle operated by a 20-year-old man who was traveling with his pregnant girlfriend. Police reports indicate the truck driver engaged in dangerous “brake-checking” maneuvers and exhibited extremely reckless behavior on the road.

Attempting to escape the situation, the young driver exited onto McCarty Street, but the truck driver followed. At a red light, the pursuing driver pulled alongside the couple’s vehicle and began shouting threatening remarks at them.

Despite the 20-year-old’s continued attempts to escape, the truck driver reportedly drove into opposing traffic lanes to cut off and block their path. The confrontation reached its peak when the truck driver exited his vehicle and approached the couple’s car with his hand near his pocket.

Fearing for his safety and that of his pregnant girlfriend, the 20-year-old driver discharged his firearm, shooting through both the windshield and side of his vehicle. The shots struck the aggressive driver in multiple areas, including his torso, arm, and leg.

The young driver, who had previous experience as a security guard, proceeded to detain the wounded truck driver using handcuffs and contacted law enforcement.

“He’s our victim, but again, more of a suspect, really,” Lt. R. Willkens told the station. “Kind of a self-defense thing.”

The injured truck driver was transported to a local hospital and is expected to recover from his wounds. Currently, no charges have been filed against the 20-year-old driver, who is cooperating fully with investigators. Both he and his pregnant girlfriend emerged from the incident unharmed.

Law enforcement has not yet determined whether the truck driver will face charges for his actions during the incident.
