WHO Announces That ‘Monkeypox’ Has Been Renamed

Let us all be thankful that the trusted ‘experts’ have come to stop our racist ways!

The World Health Organization (WHO) made a significant announcement Tuesday: ‘monkeypox’ is no more.

A group of over 30 scientists around the world supported the name change, charging that the original term is “ discriminatory” and “stigmatizing.”

The group made the claims in a document titled “Urgent need for a non-discriminatory and non-stigmatizing nomenclature for monkeypox virus.”

The prevailing perception in the international media and scientific literature is that MPXV is endemic in people in some African countries. However, it is well established that nearly all MPXV outbreaks in Africa prior to the 2022 outbreak, have been the result of spillover from animals to humans, and only rarely have there been reports of sustained human-to-human transmissions. In the context of the current global outbreak, continued reference to, and nomenclature of this virus being African is not only inaccurate but is also discriminatory and stigmatizing.

They additionally complained that the “mainstream media in the global north” used “photos of African patients” to depict the illness, implying that such an example is indicative of some kind of discrimination.

“We, therefore, believe that a nomenclature that is neutral, non-discriminatory, and non-stigmatizing will be more appropriate for the global health community,” wrote the group of scientists.

CNN reported that the WHO’s new preferred name for the affliction will be “mpox.”

“Both names will be used simultaneously for one year while ‘monkeypox’ is phased out,” the organization said.

The Biden administration approved, indicating that it “welcome[s] the change” and promised the US will use the mpox name “from this point forward,” according to the outlet.

Monkeypox commanded a large amount of attention from many in the media after it began spreading globally months ago. The Wall Street Journal, for instance, ran a video calling the illness a “Global Health Threat.”

Meanwhile, the Biden administration announced that the virus is spreading globally and it called for a “comprehensive response from federal, state, local and international governments and communities.”

It now appears that many who were hyping up the virus, which typically only affects men engaging in homosexual intercourse, are less worried about its potential threat.
