Republicans Pushing Back Against Biden Spending Bill

(UnitedVoice.com) – On Wednesday, March 31, President Joe Biden unveiled his massive $2-trillion infrastructure proposal. And just as Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) suspected, it’s a Trojan horse. Republicans are vowing to push back.

GOP lawmakers responded to the infrastructure plan pretty quickly. McConnell said it wouldn’t have support from conservatives. House Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) called it the “Green New Deal under a new name.”

Freshman Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) outlined some of the proposal’s issues, including the billions of dollars in subsidies for green energy.

Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) explained that he believes both parties want to reach a bipartisan agreement, but the current proposal is a “far cry” from what’s “defined as infrastructure.” Other conservatives have expressed similar concerns. If the Left puts the plan into a bill and puts its forward, it is unlikely to receive 60 votes to overcome a filibuster. However, the Democrats might try to use budget reconciliation to get it through with a simple majority. Right now, though, they actually have to introduce a bill.
