Appearing on Fox News’ “America Reports” on Friday, Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) revealed that a newly-announced White House task force is just an attempt to sneak in the scrapped Disinformation Governance Board.
On Thursday, the Biden administration launched the White House Task Force to Address Online Harassment and Abuse. The interagency effort will mainly focus on the online harassment and abuse of women and members of the LGBTQ community, according to the memorandum establishing the task force signed by President Joe Biden and published on the official White House website.
“Women, adolescent girls, and LGBTQI+ individuals, who may be additionally targeted because of their race, ethnicity, religion, and other factors, can experience more severe harms from online harassment and abuse,” the memorandum states.
Blackburn was asked by the show’s host, John Roberts, about the new task force, which will be led by Vice President Kamala Harris.
“Kamala Harris has been named to head up a task force on online harassment and abuse. Do you have confidence that this will be a fair and balanced approach at looking at online harassment? …There are free speech issues here as well, do we really want the government getting involved?” Roberts asked.
Blackburn responded by remarking that the task force will have difficulty accomplishing its mission of fighting against the harassment of women because “they can’t define a woman.”
“Well, they couldn’t get their government disinformation board in place. So, now, they’re going to try to do it and say that it’s all about protecting women, but they can’t define a woman,” she said.
“So, I don’t know what they’re planning to accomplish,” Blackburn continued. “There is legislation in place that would put online privacy in place and do it in a bipartisan manner. There’s the Kids Online Safety Act that could be passed that would help with this. But they don’t want to do that. They want to talk about it, they don’t want to have anything done about it. Because they need Big Tech to stay in cahoots with them and continue to censor conservatives in the online space. We’re fighting back against that every day.”
