Planned Parenthood Quietly Changes Fact Sheet On Fetal Heartbeats

Planned Parenthood, which provides abortions across the nation, quietly edited their fact sheet concerning the timeline of fetal heart development, now stating that at five to six weeks the heart is not fully-formed.

“It sounds like a heartbeat on an ultrasound, but it’s not a fully-formed heart — it’s the earliest stage of the heart developing,” reads the Planned Parenthood fact sheet.

The fact sheet is also careful to say that there is “cardiac activity” at five to six weeks, rather than calling it a “heartbeat.”

Planned Parenthood has yet to confirm when the change took place, but it reportedly occurred at some point in August.

News of the change comes on the heels of a recently surfaced video of candidate for Georgia governor Stacey Abrams claiming that there is no heartbeat at six weeks.

“There is no such thing as a heartbeat at six weeks,” Abrams stated. “It is a manufactured sound designed to convince people that men have the right to take control of a woman’s body.”

Medical experts have yet to reach a consensus as to when the heartbeat officially begins in the embryo.

“While some people falsely claim that a preborn baby at 6 weeks’ gestation is just a clump of cells, science demonstrates the baby is already a complex human being,” stated Dr. Tara Sander Lee, a senior fellow and director of life sciences at the Charlotte Lozier Institute. “A preborn baby’s heart is actively beating at 6 weeks and will have already beat nearly 16 million times by 15 weeks.”

“In fact, at 6 weeks’ gestation, the baby’s heart rate is about 98 beats per minute, which can be easily detected by ultrasound,” she related.

Other medical experts insist that the heart is too under-developed at six weeks to call the sound a “heartbeat.”

“While the heart does begin to develop at around six weeks, at this point the heart as we know it does not yet exist,” stated Dr. Ian Fraser Golding, a pediatric and fetal cardiologist at Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego.

Abrams and Planned Parenthood are emphatically aligning with Dr. Golding’s interpretation.
