Amid the recent development that has the Republican camp buzzing, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan from Ohio has declared his stance against sending another aid package to Ukraine, should he become the next Speaker of the House. This statement comes on the heels of Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA) removal from the Speaker role, following a historic vote led by Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL).
When asked by CNN’s Manu Raju whether he would support an aid package for Ukraine as Speaker, Jordan responded firmly, “I’m against that. At some point, we’re going to have to deal with this appropriations process in the right way. We’re going to try to do that in the next 41 days.”
Jordan emphasized that the most pressing issues on Americans’ minds are the border situation and rising crime on our streets.

Jordan’s statements come as he attempts to step into McCarthy’s former role. In a heartfelt letter addressed to his House colleagues on Wednesday, the representative, who is at the forefront of the fight against the alleged “weaponization” of the federal government, underlined his ability to unite the Republican conference.
“We are at a critical crossroad in our nation’s history,” he wrote. “Now is the time for our Republican conference to come together to keep our promises to Americans. The problems we face are challenging, but they are not insurmountable.”
“We can focus on the changes that improve the country and unite us in offering real solutions. But no matter what we do, we must do it together as a conference,” he added, as he requested support in his run for the next Speaker of the House of Representatives.
So far, Jordan has already garnered support from some of his fellow GOP lawmakers. Rep. Thomas Massie (KY) declared him as his top choice for the coveted position.
Likewise, Rep. Jim Banks (R-IA) voiced his endorsement of Jordan’s candidacy, tweeting, “When it comes to negotiating on behalf of the House GOP Majority with the Senate and White House, I can’t think of anyone stronger than @Jim_Jordan to be our next Speaker of the House. He never backs down and has my full support.”
