New York Attorney General Letitia James issued a request to dismiss subpoenas. James is looking into the business activities of former President Donald Trump.
According to Alan Futerfas, an attorney for the two Trump siblings, Attorney General James attempts to sidestep the whole grand jury process and violate the Moving Parties’ most fundamental constitutional and statutory rights.
Futerfas stated in the filing that the subpoenas violate criminal procedure because James’ office is also participating in the Manhattan district attorney’s investigation of the Trump Organization.
According to the reports, Donald Trump Jr., Ivanka Trump, and Donald Trump are attempting to block the Attorney General’s Office from questioning them under oath as part of the investigation into the Trump Organization. According to the News, a document filed Monday stated, “A conflict has emerged between the OAG and the Individual Trump Parties about the subpoenas.”
The Trump Organization is accused of failing to record advantages on tax returns properly. Attempts to continue probing him or his business practices have been denounced by James as political assaults. So far, the only indictment against the Trump Organization or its officials has been for tax charges against former chief financial officer Allen Weisselberg. Moreover, the Trump Organization and Weisselberg have entered not guilty pleas to the allegations.
