Donald Trump’s First Wife Ivana Dead at 73

Ivana Trump, the first wife of former President Donald Trump, was found dead in her New York City home Thursday afternoon. The mother of Donald Jr., Ivanka Trump, and Eric Trump was 73.

Donald Trump posted the news on his Truth Social platform, saying he was “saddened” to announce the passing of a “wonderful, beautiful, and amazing woman.” He spoke of her love for their three children and added, “Rest in Peace, Ivana!”

Ivana Trump was born in communist-era Czechoslovakia in 1949 in the city of Gottwaldov, which had just been renamed by the new rulers from Zlin. She was a ski racer and model, and then became Trump’s business partner and wife in 1977. They divorced in 1992.

She became iconic in her own right, evoking 80s fashion and elegance while married to one of the nation’s richest men. Her influence on her husband’s business projects, including Trump Tower in NYC, is well known.

Ivana Trump served as vice president for interior design for her husband’s company and managed the Plaza Hotel, acquired in 1988 when they were married. She also ran Trump’s Castle in Atlantic City, and the former president called her “demanding and very competitive.”

She even appeared in the 1996 hit movie “The First Wives Club.” Her signature line was telling the other jilted wives to be strong and independent before adding, “don’t get mad, get everything.”

She remained mostly on friendly terms with her ex-husband, who was her second, and famously called him “The Donald.” During his 2016 run for the White House, Ivana declared that she was both a supporter and advisor.

Her advice? To be more calm, though she said he was not calm and “says it as it is.”

Donald Trump and others in the family did not reveal a cause of death, but the New York Post said Thursday that she suffered from cardiac arrest. Paramedics, the paper reported, found her dead in her Manhattan apartment when they arrived at 12:40 p.m. EST.

New York fire officials would not reveal identities but said they found a 73-year-old woman dead in an Upper East Side apartment on Thursday.

Ivana Trump is survived by her mother, three children, and ten grandchildren. Reports say the former first daughter Ivanka and her mother were very close and that she is “in shock” over her loss.
