The Biden administration’s desperate search for a distraction from its abysmal record ran live on prime time Thursday night. The January 6 Select Committee went full Hollywood, rolling out old news repackaged as breathlessly thrilling and life-changing revelations.
The problem for Democrats is the propaganda piece fell flat on its face.
Firstly, this three-ring circus was hardly the result of a “bipartisan” investigation that dug into this attempt to “overthrow the government.” Not in the least.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) took the unprecedented step of rejecting two of the five U.S. representatives selected by Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy. Reps. Jim Banks of Indiana and Jim Jordan of Ohio, she charged, would undermine “the integrity of the investigation.”
Instead, Pelosi appointed Reps. Liz Cheney (R-WY) and Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) to her “select” committee.
Witch hunts apparently need everyone marching in lockstep.
Declaring “the world is watching,” the overly dramatic Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS) opened the fiasco that glaringly lacked perspective or balance. He managed to insert “slavery, the Ku Klux Klan, and lynching” into his monologue.
Few reasonable individuals support incidents such as Jan. 6, and the Justice Department has pored through the evidence daily since the attack. In the end, even the left-wing media was forced to admit that last night’s “never-before-seen” footage of 1.6 was actually “familiar.”
The Democrats’ desperate attempt at deflection came up far short. Using Trump’s voice as narration over video clips is merely Hollywood drama, a sophomoric editing trick a fringe network such as MSNBC might deploy. But for the U.S. Congress?
Speaking of tricks, producers sliced Trump’s words at the 1.6 rally to exclude “peacefully and patriotically.” The fatal shooting of unarmed rioter and Navy veteran Ashli Babbitt was never mentioned in the two-hour hearing.
The committee hearings continue Monday morning, and the partisan proceedings will undoubtedly get breathless coverage from the fawning media. Revelations of this and accusations of that will be front and center for “unbiased” reporters and platforms.
Meanwhile, everyday Americans will continue to struggle through the mess created by the Biden White House, the mess we are supposed to be distracted from.
