Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: American Governance Is A ‘Sham’

As if it’s a senator’s responsibility to appease the White House rather than his constituents, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez accuses West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin of an “egregious violation” of the president’s trust. The congresswoman repeats the Democratic Party establishment’s complaints about Manchin and the American government. According to Bernie Sanders, Manchin will have to explain himself a lot in his home state after abandoning his hallmark initiative, Build Back Better.

AOC remarked, referring to Manchin’s home state of West Virginia, he represented more or just as many or more people than Joe Manchin does in terms of essential democracy. It is not only inaccurate in terms of facts, but it is also entirely irrelevant. “Democrats’ cynical play for power is their selective and transitory advocacy of vulgar majoritarianism,” she remarked.

Moreover, As everyone with even a cursory grasp of fundamental civics understands, there is no such thing as “simple democracy.” One of the reasons the Senate exists is to prevent individuals in densely populated areas like Queens from lording it over those in rural West Virginia. It is how we maintain a diverse country.

We get lectures on how “democracy” doesn’t imply direct democracy if we point out that people don’t live in a democracy and that majoritarian rule is essentially un-American, illiberal, and authoritarian. What do historians, politicians, and left-wing leaders mean when they say things like, “Last time they checked, they didn’t vote for Joe Manchin for president?” They must realize that the president is not a lawmaker.

According to AOC, progressives are normalizing a form of radicalism among their ranks, which threatens the American government. AOC stated that we need to crack down on the Senate, which operates like an old boys’ club. Democrats were still unable to pass “Build Back Better” despite avoiding regular and open discussion by relying on reconciliation and a simple majority. A small number of Democrats in the Senate may be in jeopardy if they embrace a large, debt-fueled welfare-state expansion.

Therefore, Joe Biden’s rash choice to align himself with the far left was premised on Joe Manchin’s refusal to do so. The current Democratic Party is increasingly headed by cocooned social-media influencers, who are terrific at energizing progressive crowds but poor at running the show in the real world. In the end, it’s probably a good thing for the country.
