Actor James Woods spoke about the Twitter Files Friday night in an interview with Tucker Carlson on Fox News. He praised new CEO Elon Musk, saying the billionaire possibly “saved America.” The “Twitter Files” release is made up of internal documents showing former censorship of conservatives and the Hunter Biden laptop scandal.
Musk teamed up with independent journalist Matt Taibbi to uncover the censorship about the Hunter Biden laptop story during the presidential election in 2020. The files showed that executives in the company regularly consorted with Democrats and agreed to censor content upon request. Top officials at Twitter removed anything the Democrats wanted them to delete to boost leftist agendas and the election.

Woods had posts on the social media platform that were requested for deletion by the Democratic party. Carlson asked his thoughts on Musk during the interview once the information was released. “I think Elon Musk has very possibly, very possibly saved America,” said Woods. “I think Elon Musk loves this country. It’s clear that he does, then why would he spend all that money on Twitter, this rat-infested app, you know, why would he do that unless he could see its value?”
It’s clear to Woods and other observers that the double standard is coming undone for the Democrats. During the election, Democrats claimed that content moderation with a political leaning agenda was okay because the social media site is run by a private corporation. They would say Twitter executives could force those on the platform to comply with whatever they wanted to say or express because “it’s not like it’s the town square.” But Woods says, “they’re not saying it now that Elon Musk owns it, but it was, in fact, the town square.”
Twitter was meant to be a forum for free speech. Over time, it disintegrated into speech suppression imposed upon by the left. As Woods said, “if you have a town square where only some people are allowed to use it, then you don’t really have a free country.”
